Diety ap fenproporex

Diety ap fenproporex is indicated as an adjunct in the treatment of exogenous obesity, associated with a hypocaloric diet.


exogenous obesity. They should be used for short periods (8-12 weeks) with a reduced calorie diet and exercise; its usefulness is limited vs. inherent risks.


inhibits the reuptake of norepinephrine, serotonin and dopamine.


 oral administration, they show effects of 4 to 6 hours. Mazindol 8-15 hours.

Adverse effects:

 constipation, dry mouth, insomnia, tachycardia, palpitations, increased blood pressure / SAH, hot flashes, nausea, worsening of hemorrhoids, lightheadedness, paraesthesia, headache, anxiety, sweating, taste disturbances.


 restlessness, tremor, hyperreflexia, fever, tachypnea, dizziness, confusion, aggressive behavior, hallucinations, changes in blood pressure, arrhythmias, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and cramps. Fatigue and depression generally follows CNS stimulation, possible seizures, coma, and death.


Chlorpromazine antagonizes CNS stimulation and acidification of urine to increase excretion. Use beta-blockers to control high blood pressure or tachycardia.

Tolerance and dependence:

They produce tolerance and cross tolerance in a few weeks. Intense physical, psychological dependence and social dysfunction in long treatments or abuse. Reduce doses gradually to avoid withdrawal symptoms.


  • Drugs that can affect anorectics: MAOIs, furazolidone, tricyclic antidepressants, CYP3A inhibitors and others that act on the CNS.

  • Drugs that can be affected by anorectics: guanethidine, insulin and sulfonylureas.


  1. Diethylpropion in epilepsy can increase seizures.

  2. Mazindol can cause hypoglycaemia due to increased glucose uptake by skeletal muscle.

  3. Sibutramine in narrow-angle glaucoma. It can cause pulmonary hypertension due to the release of serotonin in the terminal of the nerves.

  4. In dangerous activities the abrupt suspension or high doses for prolonged periods can cause dizziness, intense fatigue and depression. Caution when driving or activities that require alertness.
